Big Rocks

Luann Budd

"Be very careful, then, how you live—
not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil" (Eph. 5: 15-16).

We're all familiar with the story of needing to put the big rocks into the jar first. If we wait too long, they won't fit.

As August arrives, it's time to spend an hour with my calendar planning out the coming year. It's important to get birthday and holiday celebrations scheduled and also plan some time with special friends. We've also learned that taking three retreats a year keeps our relationship with Jesus vibrant and growing. Those days need to get on my calendar now. And it's important to meet regularly with a mentor, a spiritual director, a coach, or a mature, safe friend who can speak into my life.

I like to save room for some special Advent activities (a concert downtown, a trip to see the lights). And I need to block off some days just for me, days I can look forward to watercoloring or going to a local garden with a good book or reflecting on my life like Beckie shares.

What are the big rocks you want to get on your calendar now, so you can make the best use of your time?

NEWIM offers various opportunities for retreats and connection. I hope you'll put them on your calendar as well.
